Guide to the correct disposal of R4

Table of Contents

The groupings serve to divide technological waste into five homogeneous categories, facilitating collection, transport, and, above all, specific treatment to maximize material recovery and ensure the safety of hazardous components.

List of groupings: R1, R2, R3, R4, R5.

FOCUS ON THE R4: what to do?

The R4 includes small appliances, consumer electronics (such as computers, cell phones, and printers), lighting fixtures, and photovoltaic panels.

It is a vast and varied category that includes devices with external dimensions of less than 50 cm.

What should you do when you dispose of them by taking them to the municipal collection center?

It depends:

  • If it is an R4 with a removable battery ( drills, certain types of cameras, etc.), you must take an intermediate step before bringing it to the Municipal Collection Center:

FIRST: Separate the removable battery and dispose of it in the appropriate battery container.

THEN: Hand over the WEEE with the battery removed to the staff at the Collection Center, who will place it in the standard R4 container (bin or open basket).

  • If, on the other hand, it is an R4 with a non-removable battery (smartphone, power bank, tablet) or an R4 without a battery (printers, scanners, fax machines, coffee machines), then you can take it directly to the Municipal Collection Center: the staff will dispose of it in special containers.
