WEEE Regulations, Batteries and Accumulators
The reference laws are European Directive 2012/19/EU, adopted in Italy through Legislative Decree 49/2014 for Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) and Directive 2006/66/EC implemented in Italy through Legislative Decree 188/2008 for Portable Batteries and Accumulators.
Both of these laws stipulate that Manufacturers, Importers, Exporters and Distributors of these products are required to finance and organize the recovery and recycling of the products they put on the Italian market, in accordance with the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility (REP).
Those who introduce into the Italian territory Electrical and Electronic Equipment and/or Batteries and Accumulators without complying with the requirements of the law may be subject to administrative fines, ranging from a minimum of €200 for each product placed on the market to a maximum of €100,000 for failure to register.
